WHO WE ARE
Did you know that tea is the second most drunk beverage in the world? After water! We love tea and we love to share our knowledge of this 5,000 years of tea culture with you.
My own tea journey began as a child in the North of Germany. My mother would prepare a pot of black tea every afternoon after I came home from school. I would drink my tea with milk, my mother pure. I never thought this ritual particularly special at the time, but looking back, it was a tremendous tradition to gather around a cup for a few moments and be invited to share about my day.
In 2014 I founded a company with the mission to create a healthy, sustainable alternative to coffee and energy drinks, so widely used in today's working and study world. Inspired by Buddhist Zen monks who drink Matcha green tea before their meditation sessions, a bottled beverage was developed to enable people to boost their work and study efforts sustainably.
This marked my entry into the world of tea from a professional viewpoint.
Later on, as a department head for a tea company, I entered directly into the tea industry and learned from some of the most knowledgeable and professional enthusiasts I have ever met.
Finally, in the beginning of 2024, I created my own company to bring knowledge, experiences and, of course, tea itself to others - "John Wilkens Time For Tea" was born.
What does tea mean to me?
Tea is so much more than just “a cup” or “a brew” – tea is culture, time, enjoyment, fun, history, play, friendship, learning, nature and fellowship.
Our mission at John Wilkens Time For Tea is to show “what tea can be” to you. We invite you to enter your own tea journey through our tea tastings, tea cocktail tastings and tea gifts.

The best way is to show you ourselves by participating in our tea tastings and tea cocktail tastings. We spend time together learning about this incredible beverage and its 5,000 year long history. We don't present but we invite you to a conversation about the world of tea. Together we will explore, taste and experience.
In case we cannot meet together in one place, we have created our bespoke gift sets, inspired by tea but stretching across multiple high quality foods and beverages.
Traveling the world in search for beautiful teas and other products, John has since realized his dream and started his own company to bring the world of tea to others.

The Berlin-based Popcorn manufacturer “Knalle” recreated a basic product with a beautiful gourmet interpretation. We are not only convinced from a gourmet perspective as Knalle produces and ships their products completely CO2-Neutral and engages local workshops for disabled people for a social impact. On top of that, all their popcorn is hand-made in Berlin! And of course there are no genetic modifications in the corn they use.
We are impressed how Knalle managed to re-imagine popcorn in the way they did, so that we can offer you these rare creations.
Steeped in tradition from the hub of German (tea) trading in the North of Germany, this tea house sources their tea directly where possible with a focus on sustainable focused plantations and bio-production. The founder Henning Schmidt is an absolute expert in the area of tea and has assembled a team around him that lives and breathes (and drinks!) tea. They blend traditional expertise with modern trends, creating a welcoming environment for tea enthusiasts.
We are very pleased to have formed a partnership with this epicentre of tea quality.
Founded in 1915, this company from Berlin specializes in handcrafted nougat, marzipan, and chocolate creations made from high-quality, natural ingredients. Their products are crafted using traditional techniques, reflecting over a century of expertise during which they only had three owners. With a focus on quality and attention to detail, Walter Confiserie combines heritage recipes with modern creativity. They operate multiple stores and collaborate with partner confectioneries to distribute their artisanal sweets.
We are very impressed by their selection of tea-based chocolates which fit our vision perfectly.
